What is the official name of the radio station?

Do you think that people like working at the radio station? Why would you think this?

presenting a talk

You will need to choose a subject for presenting a 3 minute talk in the classroom. This can be on a topic of your choice. Remember that you need to have an introduction to the topic. This will explain about your interest in the topic you choose. Next you will have to talk about some details or knowledge about the topic. Lastly you will form a conclusion and finish the talk. You can use some photos or the data projector to make your talk more visual.

Here are some ways you can use pictures to make your talk more interesting. click on-Remote places

Please print off the work sheet for today in Blackboard TAFE and follow the instructions for reading about the Remote places. This exercise should give you an idea on how to do a short talk presentation.

3A had a great excursion to Eastern Radio on Monday. It took about ten minutes to get there. When we arrived, we were welcomed in to the rooms. There are two studios. Eleven of us crammed in to the small studio and listened to Ron tell us all about the radio station. It was a fascinating story and we had many questions we wanted to ask. Ron is a retired teacher, and he likes to volunteer at the radio station. He is a presenter on 98.1 Radio Eastern. It’s Ron’s hobby. He has a three hour program on Thursday and he also does a football show on Saturdays. He said there are about 50 people working at the station. They are all volunteers and no-one gets paid. It’s a community radio, so people join as members and they pay a membership fee. There are different jobs at Radio Eastern. Some help with administration and answering telephones. Others are radio presenters. The radio runs 24 hours over 7 days a week. It has been running since 1991.

There is a committee of management at Radio Eastern. Members are elected. There is a president, a secretary and a treasurer. They need to talk about things like where they get their funding from. They need sponsors, they apply for grants, they allow advertising, they talk about training for new presenters and they help to draw up the program according to their guidelines. They have a license from the Radio broadcasting control board which is renewed every five years.

Well, there is a lot more to say about our excursion, so we will look at the questions again in class and make a presentation from our experiences.

Have a look at the work on Blackboard TAFE  (use your student number) and look under the heading Radio Eastern FM 98.1

You can also tune in         -(maybe you’d like to listen to Ron’s show called ‘Thursday at noon’ – it starts at 11 o’clock. Or look at the program to see what’s on now.

Using Would

We use would to talk about imaginary ( or hypothetical) situations.

At a job interview, the interviewer might use would to ask what you would do if you got the job. You should also use would in your answers.

Study the use of would in the examples, then write would, ‘d or wouldn’t in the other sentences.

Would you be prepared to help out in the kitchen?’

‘Yes, I‘d be happy to do that.’

Would you be willing to work on Saturdays?’

‘I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to do that because I have young children.’

1.  Interviewer:    ‘_____________ you be able to do night shifts?’

Interviewee:     ‘That __________ be difficult for me because I don’t drive, so I’m afraid I _________ be able to do that.’

2.  Interviewer:     ‘___________  you be prepared to to serve at the counter?’

Interviewee:      ‘Yes, sure, I _____________ be happy to do that.’

3.  Interviewer:       ‘_____________you be willing to work overtime on a regular basis?’

Interviewee:      ‘Yes, I __________ . That  ____________ be no problem.’

4.  Interviewer: ‘______________ you be prepared to do door-to-door selling?’

Interviewee:  ‘I’m afraid I _____________ like to do that. I _____________ prefer to work in an office.”

Here are some commonly asked interview questions.

Why did you apply for this position?

Why do you think we should hire you?

What do you see as your strengths?

What areas do you feel you are not so strong in?

Where are the two different boys?

What is the bigger boy outside saying to the boy sitting inside?

 Why is he saying this?

What do you do to stay fit and healthy?

Do you play a sport?

What do you do to keep fit?

Please leave a comment here. Thankyou, from your teacher Jane.

Making Questions

Recently we talked about how to ask questions. These might include: What, Where, How, Why, When, Who, Does..

When you do an interview, you need to know how to ask and answer questions. If you take a simple sentence like:

‘David is happy he works in a gym because he enjoys exercising everyday.’

We can ask questions about David. Like:

  1. ‘How does David feel about working in a gym?’    He feels happy.
  2. ‘Where does David enjoy working?’          At the gym.
  3. ‘Why does David enjoy working in a gym?’     Because he likes exercising.
  4. ‘Where does David exercise every day?’    At his work, in the gym.
  5. ‘Who enjoys working in a gym everyday?’    David does.
  6. ‘What does David do?’        He works in the gym. He teaches exercise classes.
  7. ‘Does David enjoy working in the gym and exercising all day?’    Yes, he does. He really enjoys it.

Post a comment and write some questions to this statement:-

Penny is upset her daughter is sick because she will have to miss out on a day’s work.

Start with question words: How does Penny feel about missing..

Have a look at our 3A voicethread we did on the theme Emotions. Have a look at the photos. You can read and listen to how the pictures make us feel. Learn some new vocabulary.

Write a comment on one or two of the pictures. Which one made you feel scared? Which one made you feel amazed?

Do you know these words? Proud, ambitious, excited, hungry, brave, lonely, anxious, frightened, sad, astonished, creative, needy, deserving, wonderful, weird, wild, adventurous, romantic…

What you will need.

Hi students,

You will definately need a pair of headphones to start with. The headphones must have a microphone, as we will begin some speaking very soon. Please make sure they are working and that you understand how to change the volume on your computer. Make sure it is ON and not on mute. Mute means you CANNOT hear. Do not tick the mute button.

In the class, there will be some students who are able to be HELPERS. Please ask a helper if you are having difficulties. And don’t forget to thank them!

Thank you,  from your teacher,  Jane.

Welcome to 3A edublog

Hi Everybody,

This is me, and we will meet on Mondays.

I’m Jane and I will be your teacher for semester 2, 2009 at Croydon TAFE. This is a blog where our class will discover and learn the secrets of the internet and how to use all the tools. We are all students in this class, including me as well!

I will be learning by reading and using the skills of the programs as we use them too. I hope you enjoy the lessons, and perhaps you will also be my teachers.

We will begin with using pictures and words in a word doc.
